We don’t see white winters very often here in Louisiana but it’s still important to get your car ready for the winter season. Cold weather can make many problems more prevalent, especially if they’ve been lying dormant for months. Here’s some tips on how you can get your car ready for winter from us here at 171 Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram.
- Oil – Most vehicles are set to use one type of oil all year round, while others may need a different viscosity during the winter season. Colder weather can make thick oil even thicker. Check your owner’s manual to see if you should be using thinner oil during the cold weather.
- Tires – Making sure your tires have enough tread to provide optimal traction is a necessity year-round, but it’s even more important during winter. Slicker roads make it harder for tires that lack the proper amount of tread to hang on to the road. As a result, driving with worn tires could leave you in a ditch.
- Gas – During winter, keeping your gas tank filled can prevent the line from freezing. Condensation can form in an empty tank, travel into the fuel line, then freeze and block the gas from getting to the engine. Aim to keep your tank anywhere from a quarter to half-full at all times.
